Job Description
The Systems Engineer is a key member of our Technical Operations (TechOps) team. The responsibilities of the role are both broad and deep, and require technical strength across a range of infrastructure products and services. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining both the On-premises and Cloud infrastructure on which all of Blume's IT systems and services are built. The role also requires working at a fast pace, the ability to multi-task, and the agility to sustain momentum through directional changes that sometimes come rapidly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build, scale, and maintain development and production infrastructure both on-premises and in Google Cloud Platform
  • Continually strive to automate and enhance operations by identifying areas of improvement, writing scripts, documenting the environment and processes.
  • Implement and utilize monitoring tools to find problems and resolve/escalate to appropriate teams to ensure that we meet our infrastructure, coding and testing standards.
  • Install, manage, and support Linux (RHEL, CentOS) servers as needed.
  • Assist with SAN administration, backup/recovery, and system administration.
  • Work closely with colleagues to identify and resolve complex issues or problems that affect production, development, or other infrastructure environments.
  • Perform other project work and operational necessities as required.



  • Strong Linux administration skills
  • Good troubleshooting skills: understanding of networking stack in Linux systems, mastery of common directories, configuration and troubleshooting of common server software (i.e. Apache, MySQL, Tomcat, etc.)
  • 1+ year working with a Cloud Provider Service (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience with container strategies and orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes)
  • Good network administration skills.
  • Experience in system administration automation with Python and Bash.
  • Experience with network monitoring and performance management tools.
  • Experience utilizing a wide variety of open source technologies and tools (e.g. Apache, MySQL, OpenLDAP, Tomcat, Docker, Jenkins)
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.


Helpful Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a SaaS provider.
  • Experience with automation technologies to build, deploy and integrate both infrastructure and applications (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
  • Experience configuring and using monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, New Relic, Stackdriver)
  • Experience with Fortinet, Cisco, and Juniper technologies.
  • Experience with MySQL.
  • Experience with SaltStack, Puppet, or Chef.


Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
